About Chart Desk

Chart Desk teaches dashboard design and data analysis by fixing store reports. You work at XYZ Mart with your mentor Ananya. Each Monday, managers bring questions and broken cards. You pick the right chart, fix misleading axes, and build measures.

How to play

  1. Read the manager's question in the team chat. Ananya's field note explains the new idea.
  2. In chart tasks, pick the chart type, the axis, the measure and the sort order.
  3. In broken-card tasks, reset truncated axes or narrow date windows, then answer the question.
  4. In measure tasks, swap pills like SUM, MEDIAN, COUNT and DISTINCTCOUNT, and add filter pills.
  5. In drill tasks, tap a city slicer to filter the chart and find the winner.

What it practises

The free levels have 12 tasks across two Monday meetings. Level 1 covers bar charts, line charts, pie charts, sorting and counting unique buyers. Level 2 covers zero baselines, full date windows, median vs average, and filter pills. Every chart and measure runs on real store rows in your browser.

Questions

How do I learn dashboard design for free?
Start with Level 1. You build bar and line charts for six store cities and see each change live.
When should I use DISTINCTCOUNT instead of COUNT?
COUNT counts every order row, including repeat orders. DISTINCTCOUNT counts each customer ID once.
Why must a bar chart start at zero?
Bar charts compare length. Starting above zero chops the bottom off every bar and makes small dips look huge.
